30 DAY SELF CARE CHALLENGE IDEAS

  1. GET SOME FRESH AIR

Whether you go for a walk, a run or simply sit by an open window. Getting fresh air is essential for self care as it helps clear your mind and leave you feeling ready for the day ahead.

2. READ

Do you like to read fiction or non-fiction? Audio-books or physical books? Whatever or however you like to read, do it. Reading is a perfect form of relaxation.

3. MAKE A HEALTHY MEAL

I, myself, am terrible for choosing something quick and easy over a decent healthy meal but when I am shopping, I make a conscious effort to buy ingredients rather than frozen food. To make cooking feel like less of a chore, I recommend playing music.

4. DE-CLUTTER

De-cluttering is a perfect activity for a day of self care. Owning lots of stuff isn’t good for us. It drains us mentally and sorting through your belongings can help alleviate some of that stress.

5. BE CREATIVE

Creativity is whatever you want it to be. Blog, read, write, draw, paint, sew or crochet. Do whatever makes you feel creative and good.

6. MAKE A GRATITUDE LIST

When I was younger, I could never see the point in a gratitude list. Now I do one daily, I can see the mental benefits. Making a gratitude list is helpful for self love as well as self care. A gratitude list helps you feel grounded and present in the world.

7. BE KIND TO OTHERS

Being kind should be a daily thing but sometimes the last thing we feel like doing is holding that door open for a stranger. Some days we hate the world and don’t feel like being kind and helpful. Whether you help someone with their shopping or call a distant family member, showing kindness will always make you feel better.

8. ME TIME

Setting aside time for yourself is an essential part of self care. What do you love to do? For me, I love having a nice hot bath on a Sunday morning and washing my hair while slow music plays. That is my ultimate ME TIME and I look forward to it every week. Find something that makes you feel like you and take a moment to focus your energy on that one activity.

9. WAKE UP WITHOUT AN ALARM

I work everyday except Sunday so I have one day where I don’t have to set an alarm. I completely treasure Sunday mornings because I finally get to wake up naturally. Not setting an alarm allows your body to catch up on its must needed sleep. It also allows you to have a full nights sleep without interruptions.

10. SOCIAL MEDIA DETOX

Shock horror! Will the world fall apart if you don’t check Instagram and like your brother in laws photos of his cat. We rely so strongly on social media, checking it when we wake up and before bed. Take a break. Start small, a couple of hours then a day and so on. It will allow you the time to focus on yourself instead of obsessing over other peoples lives.

11. HAVE AN EARLY NIGHT.

As I type this, its currently 8pm and I am exhausted. I want to go to sleep but I’m fighting it. But you shouldn’t. If you’re tired, sleep. Your body and mind both need the rest. Tomorrow you can wake up refreshed and ready for the day ahead.

12. LEARN TO SAY NO

Negativity is one of the hardest things to keep away from, especially when it’s in the form of people. Setting clear boundaries with negative people can help you stay away from negativity and eventually learn to say no to things that don’t bring happiness into your life.

13. PLAN A PROJECT

Having a new project can help center your focus on bettering yourself.

14. TRY SOMETHING NEW

Have you every wanted to learn to play an instrument? To open an Etsy shop or start a blog? Do it. Take that leap of faith and try something new.

15. SPEND TIME AT YOUR FAVORITE PLACE

A coffee shop, the park or your garden. Spend some time at the place you feel most comfortable.

16. WEAR YOUR FAVORITE OUTFIT

We all have that one outfit that makes us feel like we can conquer the world. Wear it. Embrace it.

17. START A JOURNAL

How many times have I spoke about keeping a journal? Lots and I will continue to. A daily journal can help you keep in touch with your emotions and process difficult situations in a safe and controlled environment.

18. WATCH SOMETHING FUNNY

Videos of cats, your favorite TV show or film. Whatever makes you laugh.

19. LISTEN TO MUSIC

20 songs a day has been scientifically proven to make you feel better. Wake up and listen to your favorite band or singer while you get ready.

20. BAKE SOMETHING

Bake your favorite sweet treat and enjoy!

21. MAKE A TO DO LIST

I love lists! Every night, make a to do list of everything you want to accomplish the next day. It will increase your productivity.

22. CREATE A BUCKET LIST

We should always have goals. They are the driving force that keeps us going forward. Having a bucket list of all the goals you want to achieve and places you want to go is the ultimate motivation.

23. STAY HYDRATED

Drink water, and then drink even more. Keep your body hydrated with eight glasses of water a day.

24. DATE YOURSELF

Not literally but take yourself on a date. Go to the cinema alone or go for a coffee by yourself.

25. GO FOR A SWIM

Clear your mind under water.

26. LIGHT A CANDLE

A beautiful smelling candle will fill your senses with wonderful scents.

27. MORNING MANTRAS

Every morning, stand before a mirror and tell yourself something positive. Tell yourself how much you love you.

28. FORGIVE YOURSELF

We all have parts of ourselves that we don’t like. Apologies to yourself for your hate. Learn to love yourself unconditionally.

29. SHARE A QUOTE

On Facebook, Instagram or simply change your lock screen to a quote that you love or find inspiring.

30. BECOME MORE ORGANISED

Planning your day to day, or your month can help put your mind at rest. It will also help incorporate self care into your routine.
