The Life Changing Power Of Gratitude Journaling

One of the best things I started doing in 2019 is gratitude journaling. I can hand on heart, say it has made me look at the world in a positive way and take on new challenges that before, I felt were too hard.

What is a gratitude journal?

A gratitude journal is a notebook or journal that you write in every day. Unlike an ordinary journal, instead of writing about your day, you write about what you are grateful for.

Practicing gratitude will invite positive energy into your life that will help you make the changes that you desire.

Why is it important to journal for gratitude?

Lets be honest, it is a hell of a lot easier to seek out the negatives in life rather than the positives. The media is constantly bombarding us with so many negative stories that we forget to look for positives. Constant negativity isn’t healthy and ultimately makes you miserable.

Starting a gratitude journal will re-wire your mind to search for the positives, even in a negative situation. You will actively seek out the good in any situation which will make you live a happier, healthier life. Once you start putting that happiness forward into the universe, you will begin to see and receive more of it.

If you struggle with depression, gratitude journaling can feel a lot harder to begin with. Finding the positives is difficult but I recommend starting small. Start by writing your achievements, even if they feel small. Eg) I am grateful that I got out of bed today. When you struggle with depression, that is a huge achievement that you deserve to feel happy about.

How do I start gratitude journaling?

The first step to gratitude journaling is to make it part of your daily routine. Writing your gratitude needs to become a habit that you do everyday. Once you turn gratitude journaling into a healthy habit, it will become easier. I write in my journal while I have breakfast and before bed. I write down my morning gratitude and my evening gratitude everyday which enables me to start and end the day positively.

  • 5 things I am grateful for in my life
  • 3 people who make me happy and why
  • Think of the worst day you’ve had and turn it into a positive
  • Write about your day and why you are grateful for the experiences it gave you
